So after looking at my stash of beads in tubes I thought I better start using them a bit more frequently.  You know the sort of stash I mean.  Addictively out of control stash. The stash that suddenly accumulates when you are in a shop thinking “oh shiny beads, I must purchase you” and then there you go, lots of money later you arrive home with a bag of stuff that you try and casually pop into a safe location until you need it, then spend hours looking for it at a later date.  Oh what joy.

Had a quick go at knitting and using the beads as decoration and came up with the idea of a wristband and also a necklace.  Its quite difficult I think to make it look appealing using the knitting and beading as it needs to look so professional to pull it off.  I will let you decide yourselves if I have done so.

The main problem I find with knitting is that you have to concentrate too much especially if you are doing beaded knitting as you have to set out what sort of pattern you want on a grid and then follow it.  Not that easy if there is something that takes your attention away.  I think on balance I prefer trying to bash a button maker of an evening instead.  Far more satisfying.

I am sure I will be able to find a grateful recipient of this jewellery combination.

Thought I would not bore you with some buttons tonight.  Hooray I hear you say.  Instead I will make you suffer by viewing my beaded ring which I created and embellished (good word eh) with those little glass flower beads I am so in love with.

First attempt at the band of beads for the ring was a disaster.  I somehow managed to get the beading going length ways instead of width ways and when I came to zip it up, no of the beads would slot into each other.  How unbelievably annoying is that.  I was also being distracted by the Olympics on the TV as well so perhaps I didn’t quite think it through properly before I embarked on it.  But thats me all over, act before you think.

The beading itself isn’t too bad once you get into the swing of it.  Its a bit fiddly but then after a couple of rows it starts to take shape.

I think the hardest thing was to decide on what colour to use.  Word to the wise, take the beads out of the plastic tube first as they do look a different colour.

I thought I would give this to one of my friends, I can hear them all praying that its not them who is the lucky recipient of it.  I would wear it but then again I did make it so I have to say that really don’t I.

It’s a pity I hadn’t made one of these before as I am sure that Kate would have worn one at her wedding.

So I popped in to Abakhan last week and decided that I wanted to have a go at making fabric buttons.  “Oh its so easy” the lady said.  Yes right.

“All you do is wrap the fabric around the metal button ( if only it was that easy, having wrestled with the fabric for quite some time, I went for the forceful approach) and then you put the clasp on.  You dont need a gadget as they are self fastening.”

Unless you have a grip like one of the olympic arm wrestlers then there is no way you can get the button to clip on.  I decided to admit defeat and go and buy the gadget.  The gadget is a piece of rubber that you balance the button in and then bang really hard with on the top.  This I can do very easily given the level of frustration already incurred.

Here are some photos of my end products.  I decided to decorate one of them with the czech glass flower beads, they are so dainty I love them.  I will pop some photos on tomorrow night of my beaded buttons that I have also had a go at doing.

Notice the way the flowers stand up from the button, I think this is probably what caused the problems with my new button making kit.  I think if you had the time to spare you could make some lovely buttons to give as gifts but I think I may have to start now if I am going to give them as christmas gifts.

Christmas comes but once a year, unless you are trying to take some photos for christmas ceramics.

Had a lovely day walking around Delamere Forest and in between the rain the sun came out.

This evening was spent watching rebecca adlington swim and win bronze.  Oh yes and also I was stringing popcorn for my tree and taken orange slices out of the oven and putting raffia ribbon on them.  First picture is of my lovely orange slices and its a pity that you can’t smell them as it is gorgeous.

Second picture is of both of them.  Not bad for home made.  Have to say its a bit strange doing christmas stuff in July but there you go.  Managed to get all my photos done and sent off.

Still checking for any more olympic tickets to come on sale for swimming.

See you soon

Well it’s not been a great day for us brits.  No gold medals – so many hopes.  Mark Cavendish is a bit stroppy isn’t he.

I am sure we will make good in the next couple of days. Go Team GB.  At least Seb Coe is cashing it in so someone in GB is happy.

So spent the day in Southport today wandering down the pier and around the town.  At the end of the pier is an arcade which uses pre decimal money in its machines and after having a go of a few of them it suddenly dawned on me that the imprint on the coins would be brilliant on wedding favours for the vintage themes.  Not made them yet but they are on my to do list.  I forgot to say, also at the end of the pier is a nice cake and tea shop which I was drawn to and also had to sample a few things.

Off to Delamere forest tomorrow but before embarking on our walk there, I have to stop off at a bead shop to buy some supplies.  Not more I here you say, but yes I need some colours which represent colours for gentlemen as my brief from one of magazine editors is the creation of “item x” with colours that blokes would like.  Wandered into a couple of shops to look at what colours blokes wear and I was surprised to see the current colours are pink and lilac.

Too much time spent watching olympic coverage to do any proper crafting today I’m afraid.  Just found that some tickets for swimming have come on sale at 11.42pm, really wanted to go but there are for Sunday at 10 a.m so there is only 11 hours before it starts so not much hope of getting there…..

See you tomorrow

Just had a fab day out in Lytham and now at home singing our national anthem at the olympic party.  Watched the ceremony all the way through…..

Anyway more interestingly I have just finished a batch of ceramic guest book favours which are really lovely.  I do hope the bride will like them all.  They seem to be really popular at the moment.  Just also had a go at making a bracelet for a friend.  Lets see if she likes it……

Thought I might give making seed paper a whirl in the next couple of weeks.  Will let you know how I get on.

Do you ever just have one of those days when nothing goes right ? The more you try to hurry doing something the worse it gets.  This was my day to day.

Olympic opening ceremony on Friday and everyone is gearing up for it.  I am having an Olympic party – bet you are all well gel (as they say in essex).

So being the soft touch that I am or perhaps completely deluded, I say to one of my friends, yes of course I can create something for your charity day.  She wanted a goody bag for all her keen and eager charity buffs with all the money being donated to a good cause.  Of course I did it for free, who would charge for such a thing.

So slight lack of attention to detail with my friend, who forgot (LOL) to tell me that were 120 participants.  OMG thats a lot.  My little 2012 Olympic bags are going to take ages.  So glad I suggested that we should put double ribbon on them so that we got all three colours of Team GB on there and also put the flag and there lets finish it off with a 2012 print.

So off I went making what felt like 10 million goody bags and eventually finished the last one.  Hooray.

Wow I hear you say.  I truly hope these recipients appreciate the time taken to make them.  No I don’t think they will either but you never know it may help them put more money in the donation boxes.

That’s all for now
